What are the normal pocket specs for a pool table?
Written by Rob Kay

Your standard home table will usually have very large pocket openings with a wide face angle. The measurements for a pocket are the "point to point" width for total pocket width; this is up to 5.5" for a bucket corner pocket and will go all the way down to 4" for a very tight "quad shim" table you might see in a pool hall. The pocket throat and included angle from the pocket facing to the cushion face is a major factor is having a ball rattle out of the pocket. Typically an amateur table will have larger pockets which helps beginners feel more comfortable about pocketing balls. Higher skilled players may want to make their opponents work harder so the table is intentionally made harder by tightening the pockets.
